It is with much sorrow that I bring you this news.
Douglas Schwartz, publisher and editor of Artists Are Always Right,
passed away on April 25th. I cannot tell you how difficult and painful the last
three months have been for me. Douglas and I not only shared our love for
each other as husband and wife, but also our love for art as fellow artists.
I am very proud of the work he put into creating the Artists Are Always Right journal.
He enjoyed sharing his thoughts on art and artists in each issue and wanted to give
artists the recognition they deserved. To quote what he said in the premiere issue:
"...I want Artists Are Always Right to be a celebration of all artists and their creativity."
He was truly a devoted and talented artist who encouraged all artists to never
give up and continually strive to make a positive and meaningful contribution
to the world through their creative endeavors.
As he said in the SPOTLIGHT of the November/December 2022 issue:
"...I find it comforting to trust in the positive actions of all the truly good people in
the world, particularly my fellow artists who have the ability to not only entertain
others, but to show everyone a better future through their creative dreams."
I will greatly miss working with him on this journal. As a very dedicated and caring artist
he wanted to reach out to other artists and create a place where they could share their
common bond. I sincerely hope you enjoyed, and will keep with you, some of the
thoughts he shared and so passionately believed in.
From the premiere issue:
"Art has a miraculous way of revealing itself to the artist and to the world.
The rhythm of creativity flows according to its own dictates, in its own way, and all art
combined throughout time reveals an even greater purpose and reason for being."
He always hoped that everyone who visited Artists Are Always Right would be
"artistically enlightened." I know that he achieved his goal. I like to think that he is still
creating works of art somewhere in a place that is too beautiful and peaceful for us to imagine.
As Douglas would say, "Keep on creating!"
Karen Schwartz
From the SPOTLIGHT of the September/October 2018 issue:
"Like a puzzle, each work of art, be it a photograph, painting, poem, sculpture, film,
musical score, or any creative design, is comprised of an infinite number of pieces
which, if assembled correctly, present something truly wonderful and meaningful for
the intended audience to experience. That is what makes art so special and incredible!
I celebrate the infinite!"
