To Be An Artist
Inside the Book
January/February 2022 Issue
Once upon a time, five years ago to be exact, two artists began an online journal for all visual, performing and literary artists. The two
artists in question were Douglas and Karen Schwartz and the journal was Artists Are Always Right.

Five years have come and gone. The world has gone through a tremendous amount of turmoil. Tensions seem to be at a breaking
point. And yet, the purpose behind Artists Are Always Right remains as relevant today as it did back then...and that is to give artists
the recognition they deserve.

During the past five years, Artists Are Always Right has grown from the creative seedling it once was into the journal it has become
almost by magic. Or, to put it more appropriately, as if guided by the very same Muses (which, of course, was the case) who have
guided all intrepid souls who have called themselves artists ever since the first men and women created pictures on cave walls, made
music by banging on a hollow log or by blowing through a reed or conch shell, or caused their vocal chords to do more than just grunt.

Throughout the pages of history since those humble beginnings, artists have given hope to humanity during the darkest of times
through their creative accomplishments. Artists have warmed countless minds and souls with their poetry, music, pictures and stories.
So too have they captivated audiences with their acting and dance. Artists have done all this and so much more...and artists will
continue in this tradition until the end of time. What else can we do? This is our purpose...the reason we are on this journey.

Even though five years may not be a long time in the cosmic sense, Artists Are Always Right has managed to add to this creative
legacy by featuring the work of many visual, performing and literary artists in its pages. While we obviously can't show everything that
each issue expressed in this anniversary SPOTLIGHT, you are welcome to explore them in detail by going to the PAST ISSUES page.

Without further ado, Artists Are Always Right proudly presents a selection of images in this fifth anniversary retrospective. Our gallery
tour begins with the February 2018 Premiere issue (which served as an introduction to yours truly) and culminates with the November/
December 2022 issue. In the spirit of the story behind A Christmas Carol, you might say...the spirits have arrived to show us the past
and present of Artists Are Always Right.

Cue the sounds of the fanfare trumpet and drum roll, please!
A Look Back
So, there you have it. A look back at the past five years. Which brings us to the question...Where will Artists Are Always Right go from
here?

I suppose if the spirit of the future were here to answer the question, it might say something like...To the future, of course! The direction
where all souls must journey
. The future, after all, is overflowing with creative potential. That spirit would be 100% right!

Without artists and all they might create, however, any future would be extremely bleak. Picture the coldest and most dismal possible
future you can imagine and then multiply it by ten million. It would, in fact, be darker and colder than a bottomless pit of utter despair.

At our current time in history, the importance of positive enlightenment and creative expression is all too often overshadowed by the
political crapola dished out in the twenty-four hour news cycle. The fact of the matter, however, is that the fruits of artists' labor have
always been the true guiding light for humanity, far outlasting the temporary (and generally meaningless) "news" of the day.

To illustrate this, I ask the following question. Which would you say is more meaningful...the Mona Lisa, or what some politician said
or did during the time when Leonardo da Vinci created his famous painting?

I propose that artists have always led the way by expressing through their work, either directly or indirectly, the following...To hell
with all the bullshit that many political leaders and other so-called "dignitaries" spew! Let's explore the incredible majesty of life.
Let's attempt to understand why we are here on Earth, discover what is truly important to us as a species, and understand where we
want our journey to take us
. To that, I would say...how's that for a meaningful purpose!

As for this journal called Artists Are Always Right which began its own journey five years ago, I have just one more thing to add.
The meaningful purpose for Artists Are Always Right is just beginning! There's much more to come!
